Magnets

The Science Bit

Permanent magnets get their magnetism from the arrangement of the electrons in the atoms of the magnet. The alignment of these electrons can be affected by temperature and, therefore, each magnet has a specific operating temperature. Magnets can be magnetised in may ways however, at Guy's Magnets we mainly sell multipolar or axially magnetised magnets.

The strength of a magnet is measured in MGOe. The higher the MGOe the more powerful the magnet. See our 'at a glance' indicators to get a measure of each of our magnets strengths and properties.

For more information on different types of magnets please see the links on the menu on the left hand side of this page.
