A 'Flock' of loom band ladybirds on the fridge

Loom Bands and Fridge Magnets

Loom bands seem to be the latest thing and we wondered if they could be made into fridge magnets.  Happily, the answer is yes!  We used a youtube tutorial to make Ladybirds (Ladybugs)  DoodleDrawArt – How to make a Ladybug Charm youtube tutorial.

Once they are removed from the loom, the ladybird is flat and the spots are hidden inside.

The ladybird needs to be adjusted to reveal the spots.  The tutorial shows this from 12.16 onwards.

Once you have adjusted the ladybird, you will see that the spotty side of the ladybird is curved and that a dimple has been created on what is now the underside.

This dimple is just the right size for a 12x3mm ferrite disk magnet.

We used a drop of super glue to fix our magnets to the ladybirds, but hot melt glue or 2 part epoxy resin would also work.  We do not recommend PVA craft glue or wood glue in this instance though.

Because of the open weave nature of the bands, we recommend putting the magnet flat on a table and then putting the glue on top of it.  Then carefully align the ladybird’s dimple and press down firmly!

Keep holding until the glue starts to set.  Once it’s partially set, you can turn the ladybirds over and let the glue finish setting.

You’re now ready for your ladybird parade on your fridge or freezer!  They also make great teachers gifts at the end of the school year.
